GENEVA, Ill. - Hollywood might come knocking for the script that the Kane County Cougars (38-36) and the Cleburne RailRoaders (36-38) have been writing over the past week. After the RailRoaders spoiled CJ Eldred's no-hitter in the 9th, Galli Cribbs Jr. launched a home run in the 11th for the Cougars' second straight walk-off win.
In the bottom of the 11th with two runners on, Cribbs launched a Nick Gardewine (2-2) pitch over the right field fence for a 4-1 walk-off winner in front of 8,376 at Northwestern Medicine Field Saturday night. It was Cribbs' second home run of the season and second career homer in Kane County.
A home run seemed nearly impossible all night long, however, as CJ Eldred worked eight hitless innings before Elmer Reyes ended the no-hit bid to start the 9th inning. Eldred allowed just one Cleburne base runner through eight innings, allowing no walks and collecting seven strikeouts. The lone base runner was Mark Karaviotis who reached on an error in the 6th. Cleburne used that Reyes single to propel them for their first run of the game, on Bret Boswell's RBI double down to their final strike.
Logan Nissen (2-3) continued the solid pitching with two scoreless innings in the 10th and 11th frames.
The Cougars first drew blood in the 8th on dramatic Jonah Davis' RBI single to plate Cornelius Randolph.
The Cougars finish the series with the Railroaders Sunday afternoon. Cleburne will send right-hander Kevin Hilton (5-2, 3.82 ERA) to the bump, while Cougars' righty Tyler Beardsley (7-4, 3.19) takes the bump.
