Prince George Cougars News Release
LANGLEY, BC - The Prince George Cougars (3-1-0-0) are leaving Langley with a pair of wins after up their 3-2-win Sunday afternoon against the Victoria Royals at the Langley Events Centre.
Sunday was the Cougars' third-straight win of the pre-season, after beating Vancouver one night ago and Kelowna last weekend in the Okanagan.
Ryan Schoettler and Kjell Kjemhus staked the Cougars out to a 2-0 lead after the first period, and Josh Maser scored the eventual game-winning goal in the second period. Isaiah DiLaura picked up his first win of the pre-season, stopping 26 of 28 shots fired his way.
The Cougars penalty-kill stood tall, killing-off seven of eight Royals power-plays, including a five-on-three with less than five-minutes left, when they were nursing a 3-2 lead.
Schoettler opened the scoring just over four-minutes into the first period, after a nice setup by Liam Ryan from the corner. Kjemhus added to the near the midway mark, as he broke down the left-wing and went five-hole on Dean McNabb.
After Victoria made it 2-1 early in the second, Maser restored the Cougars two-goal lead near the 10-minute mark of the middle stanza. Maser, from inside the crease, tapped-in a pass from Ethan Browne, after he carved his way down to the goal-line.
Victoria scored the only goal of the third period, when they shaved the Cougars lead to 3-2 four-minutes in, but Prince George held the fort the rest of the way.
The Cougars return home for their only home pre-season game on Saturday, September 15th, when they face the Kamloops Blazers. Tickets are just $10 and are available at the TicketsNorth box office at the CN Centre.
