Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, IL - The Kane County Cougars were one out away from a victory that would put them a season-best 10 games over .500 Saturday night, but the South Bend Silver Hawks rallied against Jose Guzman in the top of the ninth and beat the Cougars, 7-3, in front of 6,210 at Elfstrom Stadium. The Cougars lead, 3-1, entering the ninth, but a grand slam turned the game around and led to a loss.    The Cougars had scored all of their runs in the third against Sean Morgan. Jeremy Barfield scored on a wild pitch with the bases loaded, and Jason Christian cracked a two-run single for a 3-0 game. That score remained until the eighth inning. Cougars starter Anthony Capra logged seven shutout innings with four hits, two walks and eight strikeouts but ended up with a no-decision.    Scott Deal worked the eighth inning and allowed South Bend's first run, and Guzman allowed five in the top of the ninth, including a grand slam to Alberto Diaz. Guzman (1-1), who also blew a save Friday but recovered to get the win, gave up five runs on three hits and walked two in 2/3 of an inning. He was replaced by Josue Selenis, who yielded one more run for the eventual 7-3 final.    The Cougars (15-7) and Silver Hawks (10-12) continue their series Sunday afternoon at 1 CDT when Matt Fitts (0-3, 6.48) faces Trevor Harden (3-1, 2.25).
