
Bees Drop Series Opener to White Caps

Burlington, IA - The Burlington Bees opened a three game series with West Michigan with a 8-2 loss Saturday night. The Bees scored the first run of the game and led going into the third but allowed six runs in the final four innings.
The Bees scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning. Fernando Garcia led the inning off by being walked and then stole second base. A J.D. Alfaro infield single moved Garcia to third before he scored on a passed ball to give the Bees a 1-0 lead.
West Michigan took their first lead of the game by scoring two runs in the top of the fourth. The Bees came back to tie the game with a run in the bottom of the fourth. With two outs, Patrick Norris hit an infield single and then stole second. Norris then scored on a Garcia single and the game was tied 2-2.
West Michigan went on to score two runs in the fifth to take the lead for good. They added one run in the sixth, two in the seventh and then one more in the ninth for their 8-2 victory.
Brent Fisher got the start and the loss for the Bees to move to 0-2. He allowed four runs, two of which were earned, on five hits with four strikeouts and three walks in 4.2 innings. Manauris Baez pitched 1.1 innings and allowed thre runs on five hits. James Thompson pitched two scoreless innings before Justin Garcia finished out the game allowing one run on one hit.
The Bees had six hits in the game. Patrick Norris was the only Bees with more than one hit going 2-4 with a run. Garcia had one hit and two walks.
The Bees open continue the three-game series with West Michigan Sunday afternoon at 2:00 at Community Field. Bryan Casey is the scheduled starter for the Bees.
