Cougars Sign Laing to WHL Standard Player Agreement

PRINCE GEORGE, BC - The Prince George Cougars are proud to announce 2006-born forward Hunter Laing has signed a Western Hockey League (WHL) Standard Player Agreement.

Laing, 15, was the Cougars' second round selection, 33rd overall, in the 2021 WHL Prospects D raft earlier this month.

"We're excited to have Hunter join our organization and we are thrilled to have our top two selections signed," said Cougars' General Manager & Head Coach Mark Lamb. "Hunter's size and style of play is something we wanted to add to our forward depth."

The Kelowna, BC product leads the Rink Hockey Academy Kelowna's Under 16 team in scoring with 26 points (12g-14a) in 17 games. The 6'6" and 190-pound forward comes from a hockey family, as he is the son of Kelowna Rockets Assistant Coach Quinten Laing.

"Hunter has size, and he establishes a dominating presence when he's on the ice," said Cougars' Director of Scouting Bob Simmonds. "He plays with skill and determination and has a well-rounded game. He is really only scratching the surface of his potential."

Laing is the second player from the Cougars' 2021 draft class to sign this week. First round selection Tyson Buczkowski signed on Monday.
