Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, IL. - The Kane County Cougars dropped Game 2 of their four-game series against the Clinton Lumberkings, coming up short in a 5-2 final Sunday night in front of 5,555 fans at Elfstrom Stadium. The Cougars never held a led, and their bases-loaded ninth-inning rally fell short.

Trailing 3-0 in the sixth, Larry Cobb got the second of his three hits by launching a one-out solo homer off Broc Coffman (5-0) over the fence in left for a 3-1 score. Clinton added tallies in the seventh and ninth for a 5-1 count heading to the bottom of the ninth.

Haas Pratt and Greg Dowling singled off Jeremiah Haar, and David Castillo walked to load the bases, setting up a sacrifice fly by Alex Valdez which made it 5-2. With two outs, Sammy Hernandez walked to load the bases again, but a flyball ended the threat and the game. Haar recorded his seventh save.

Starter Henry Rodriguez (1-3) suffered the loss and faced a jam in three of his four frames. After escaping danger in the first three, he gave up a two-run double in the fourth to Marcus Lemon and left after the frame. The right-hander served up two runs on five hits, walked three and fanned four in the loss. Reliever John Herrera replaced him and gave up three runs on seven hits over five innings.

The Cougars (15-41) and LumberKings (33-21) go at it again Monday night at 6:30 CDT when Trevor Cahill (1-1, 5.40) faces Mike Ballard (6-4, 4.64).
