Couch Joins Gladiators

The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that they have agreed to terms with defenseman Michael Couch for the 2009-10 season.

Couch joins the Gladiators after skating for the Mississippi Sea Wolves during the last two seasons. Couch collected six goals in 15 games last year with Mississippi. He appeared in 66 games with the Sea Wolves during the 2007-08 season posting 3 goals and 12 assists for 15 points.

Prior to joining Mississippi, Couch played with Torino in Italy during the 2006-07 season. In 21 games, the 6-foot-4, 208 pound defenseman notched 2 goals and 8 assists for 10 points.

The Hanna, Alberta native played two seasons ('04-'05 & '05-'06) with St. Thomas University in Canada. He combined for 6 goals and 6 assists for 12 points in 55 career collegiate Canadian Interuniversity Sport games.

Couch also played four seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League splitting time between the Halifax Mooseheads and the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies. In 235 career QMJHL games, Couch posted 64 points.

Began in 1988-89 with five teams playing in four states, the Premier 'AA' Hockey League has grown into a coast-to-coast league that is the third-longest tenured professional hockey league behind only the National Hockey League and the American Hockey League. The ECHL averaged 4,174 per game last season, marking the fourth year in row and the 16th time in the last 18 years that the league has averaged over 4,000 fans. The league has drawn over four million fans each of the last five years and 11 times in the past 12 seasons.
