Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has signed forward Jean-Francois Boucher (âZHAWN frahn-SWUH boo-SHAY'). In his first season of pro last year, Boucher (6'0/200) (23), who hails from Rosemere, Quebec, scored one goal and assisted on three others (four points) and picked up seventy-six penalty minutes in forty-seven games with Ingolstadt ERC of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL).
Boucher launched his pro career in Germany last season after completing a four year stint at Yale University, where he scored twenty-four goals, assisted on twenty-four others (forty-eight points) and picked up 298 penalty minutes in 120 collegiate hockey games. During his sophomore season with the Bulldogs, Boucher led the team with thirteen goals and established a school record with 107 penalty minutes in 31 games. Boucher was recruited to Yale after an exceptional preparatory term at Upper Canada College, a prestigious Toronto-area high school. Boucher was born into a family of fine athletic talent, as both his father and mother were world class speed skaters. In fact, his father, Gaetan, was a four-time Olympic medalist for Canada, while his mother, Karin (Fleige), skated for the German National Team. Last year, Boucher and his teammates with Ingolstadt ERC experienced the honor of playing for the Spengler Cup in the historic week-long round robin tournament held in Davos, Switzerland, during the holidays between Christmas and New Year's Day.
The Royals open the 2009-10 ECHL season on Thursday, October 15, 2009 (7:05 pm) when the Kalamazoo Wings make their first visit ever to the Sovereign Center in Reading, Pennsylvania. Season tickets for the Royals' 2009-10 season are currently available. To become a part of Royals hockey, call 610-898-PUCK or log onto www.royalshockey.com.
