Cottonmouths Re-Sign Pair of Forwards, Announce Schedule Changes

August 31, 2011 - SPHL (SPHL)
Columbus Cottonmouths News Release

The Columbus Cottonmouths have re-signed a pair of forwards from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, as Jordan Braid and Levi Lind will return to the Snakes.

Braid, 22, came to Columbus as a rookie last season, collecting 34 points in 54 games. Prior to that, he spent three seasons with the Kindersley Klippers of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, collecting 137 points in 124 games. He was utilized primarily as a forward last season but has ability to play defense if needed. This will be Braid's second professional season.

"Last year, Jordan turned out to be a pleasant surprise and I expect more from him this season," head coach Jerome Bechard said. "I need him to be more consistent in his whole game, but I think with this being his second year he will feel more comfortable right off the bat."

Lind, 23, returns for his third season as a Cottonmouth. Lind came to Columbus as a rookie in 2009, collecting 52 points in 56 games and earning all-SPHL rookie honors. Last season, he collected 21 points in 56 games. Used strictly as a forward in his rookie season, Lind alternated roles between forward and defense last season. Prior to coming to Columbus, Levi spent two seasons with the Melville Millionaires of the SJHL where he registered 90 points in 92 games. Lind was one of only two players to play in all 56 regular season games last season.

"Levi had an up and down year last year, and I expect him to rebound and be a force right out of the gate this season," Bechard said. "He needs to use his size and talent to be the power forward that we need him to be."

The Snakes have now signed ten players for the upcoming season. Returning from last season are Sam Bowles, Braid, Brett Hammond, Orrin Hergott, Lind, Andrew Loewen, Tom Maldonado and Ian Vigier. Morgan James and Andrew Krelove will join the Snakes for their first professional season.

A couple changes have been made in the Snakes originally-released schedule due to conflicts with city events and the Columbus Civic Center.

The exhibition game scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 15 at 7:30 p.m. is now going to be played in the Columbus Ice Rink on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 7:00 p.m. The Snakes will still face the Knoxville Ice Bears. Due to very limited capacity, season ticket holders will have first priority on tickets and if any tickets remain, these will be made available to the public. Seating and standing room areas will be available as first come-first served. All tickets will be $10 and includes admission to the fair that day.

The Snakes' regular season home game originally scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 26 against the Louisiana Ice Gators will now be played Saturday, Jan. 28 at 7:30 p.m.

The Cottonmouths open their 16th season at home against the Pensacola Ice Flyers Friday, Oct. 21 at 7:30 p.m. Season tickets are still available with payment plan options available. For more information or to reserve your tickets, call 706 571 0086 or visit cottonmouths.com.
