EDINBURG, Texas- The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings slid past the Edinburg Roadrunners 5-4 Sunday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium in an error filled game.

WhiteWings pitcher Ray Hanson only gave up two hits in six and two-thirds innings to get the win, which gave the Wings a 2-1 edge in their series. He struck out nine and walked two.

The win kept the WhiteWings (12-10) in second place behind the Fort Worth Cats (15-9), who lost to the Texas Thunder (10-14) by 7-5.

In the top of the second inning Wings right fielder Aaron Gates led off the inning with a walk. Kieran Bradford was the next batter up and drew a four pitch walk advancing Gates to second.

Kevin Lusson was hit by the pitch loading the bases with no outs in the inning.

With one outlater in the inning. Catcher Johnny Bowden was on a two-one count when Edinburg's Chris Christopolous let a passed ball get behind him., scoring Gates from third, giving the Wings ay 1-0 advantage.

In the bottom of the third inning, the Roadrunners tied the game at two runs each after back to back singles from Trevor Whyte and Bunyu Maeda.

Bradford led off the top of the sixth inning with a walk, followed by a hit from Lusson, Kiego Miyagi then laid down a bunt, and Edinburg's third basemen Maeda fielded the ball and threw it over Whyte's head scoring Bradford from first.

The errors continued as Johnny Bowden hit a routine fly ball to center field, where Bobby Rinard lost the ball in the sun and bounced out of his glove as Miyagi came in for the second run of the inning.

In the seventh inning the Roadrunners cut the lead 5-4 on a passed ball from Bowden scoring Carlton Salters from third. One batter later Chritstopolous got on board with a walk.

Trevor McDonald then scored Christopolous on a fielder's choice making it 5-4. Paul Montalbano sealed the win for the Wings in the ninth, giving them three wins in the series. There were seven errors in the game, five by the Roadrumners.

The series finale is set for Monday as AJ Smouse is looking for his fourth win on the year. First pitch is 7:05 p.m.
