
Edinburg's Rally Falls Short

EDINBURG, Texas - the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings held a late rally by Edinburg Roadrunners to defeat them by a score of 5-4 on Sunday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
The WhiteWings scored a pair of runs in the second inning to open the scoring of the game when a wild pitch allowed by starting pitcher Taylor Reid allowed Aaron Gates to score making it a 1-0. Thomas Schull would add an RBI single to push the lead at 2-0.
Edinburg would tie the game in the third inning when a Bobby Rinard fielder's choice RBI allowed Trevor Whyte to score trimming the lead to 2-1. Fernando De Los Santos would hit a sacrifice fly to tie up the game at two.
After trading zeros for two innings, the WhiteWings scored three runs on defensive miscues that made it 5-2.
The Roadrunners would get close in the seventh inning as they scored twice on a passed ball and an error that made it 5-4.
The winning pitcher for the WhiteWings was Ray Hanson (3-2) going six and two-thirds innings while striking out nine hitters.
Elroy Urbina (0-2) took the loss for the Roadrunners going four innings with five strikeouts and two earned runs.
Paul Montalbano earned his save of the season going two and third innings allowing one hit and one strikeout.
The Roadrunners and WhiteWings will play the final game of their four-game series Monday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
Tuesday's home game against the Alexandria Aces will be RC Cola and 7Up Two for Tuesday where select food items and drinks will be only $2.
