Fort Worth Cats News Release
A day after sweeping a scheduled doubleheader, the Fort Worth Cats dropped a close game to the McAllen Thunder on Sunday night, 7-5.
The Cats (15-9) had a 4-1 lead through four innings, but the Thunder (10-14) scored one run in the fifth and then four more in the sixth to go on top 6-4. Both teams added one more run and McAllen ended up on top.
Cats' first baseman David Bergin paced the Cats offense going 4-for-5 and notching his team-leading sixth home run of the season.
Roman Gomez, who was making his second start of the season, pitched effectively through 5.2 innings, but then walked a batter and gave up a hit and a go-ahead three-run home run to designated hitter Vince Coleman Jr.
Reliever Hector Contin came on in relief and walked four straight batters, giving up another run, before retiring the side.
The Thunder cruised through the final innings after that.
The Cats close out the five-game series with the Thunder on Monday at 7:05 p.m. before opening a four-game series against the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings at home on Tuesday.
Tickets to all home games can be purchased by going to FWCats.com or by calling (817) 332-CATS.
