Coronado Helps Patriots Rally Late, Take Series

Lancaster Stormers News Release

Former Barnstormer Nate Coronado drilled a three run homerun in the eighth inning to help the Somerset Patriots rally from a 2-0 deficit and win 6-3, taking rubber game of a three-game series against Lancaster Sunday afternoon at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

Shortstop Alfredo Rodriguez led off with a single in the eighth before Craig Massey drew a walk from Stormers' reliever Kevin Munson (7-4). After Endy Chavez advanced the runners with a dribbler to the hill, Jayce Boyd rolled a ball towards the left side hole. Vladimir Frias grabbed the ball coming in and to his right and made an off balance and off line throw to first as Rodriguez scored from third. Coronado, picked up by the Patriots to provide punch to the middle of the lineup, lined a ball off the Haller Pavilion in right, giving Somerset the 4-2 lead.

The Patriots added to their total in an odd ninth inning. Kaleb Fleck took the mound for Lancaster and walked Alfonso Reda leading off. Rodriguez followed by reaching on a fielder's choice after bunting a ball back to Fleck, who turned and tried to get Reda out towards second. The toss to Frias was low, bouncing into center field for an error. The mistake was compounded when Carlos Garcia received a roller from Massey and made an errant feed to Frias who was unable to retrieve the toss. Boyd doubled into the right field corner, scoring two more runs, giving half a dozen to the visitors.

Lancaster's rally fell short in the ninth. Trayvon Robinson clobbered his sixth homerun of the year out to the back advertising wall beyond the picnic deck to start the ninth, but the following three batters failed to reach.

A two run second inning stood for the Barnstormers up until the eighth. Anderson De La Rosa ripped a double that scurried to the wall in right center, bringing home both Frias and Garcia who each singled in the two previous at bats.

Nate Reed kept his team ahead with six innings of no run, two hit baseball while fanning nine batters before the Patriots took advantage of the bullpen in Matt Reynolds' absence, after the Barnstormers' closer called it a career last night in his final save with Lancaster.

Somerset's Vince Molesky (5-2) gave the Pats seven frames of premium pitching. After letting up two runs in the second, Molesky allowed two hits over the next five, before handing it over to the bullpen to finish the game.

The Stormers take to the road for an eight game venture across six days. It starts Tuesday night with a trip to Long Island to battle the Ducks. A four game engagement with the Sugar Land Skeeters will follow before the team returns home on September 5.

Fans can catch the Barnstormers Tuesday night road game live on the Lancaster Barnstormers YouTube Channel, starting with the pregame dugout report at 6:15pm. Brooks Hall (9-3) will make the start for Lancaster against right-hander John Brownell.
