
CornBelters Split Doubleheader with Otters

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, split a doubleheader with the Evansville Otters on Thursday at Bosse Field, winning the opener 7-4 and dropping the nightcap 3-2.
In the first game of the twinbill, the CornBelters never trailed despite each team putting up three runs in the fourth inning. Chris Iriart hit his 21st home run of the season and Cody Erickson drove in two runs.
Jack Landwehr (8-3) picked up the victory with five innings of work, giving up four runs (earned) on nine hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Jonathan De Marte worked the final frame for his sixth save. Spencer Medick (4-2) also threw five innings and took the loss.
In Game 2, Cam Adams drove in both Belters runs in the second inning, but the Otters tied the game with a two-run third and took the lead in the bottom of the sixth by pushing across a lead-off walk with a one-out single.
Nick Bozman (5-1) sustained his first loss by giving up three runs in 5 1/3 innings, surrendering three runs (earned) on only three hits but with eight walks. He struck out four Otters. Randy Wynne (7-8) tossed six innings and earned the win while Alex Phillips gave up a hit but struck out three Belters in the final frame for his fourth save.
The CornBelters (43-35) hold a two-game lead in the Frontier League West Division over Southern Illinois. The Belters travel to the west suburbs of St. Louis to face the River City Rascals for a weekend series. The Rascals are tied for third in the West, four games behind the Belters. First pitch at CarShield Field in O'Fallon, Mo. on Friday is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
