CornBelters Partner with Special Olympics Illinois

Normal, Illinois - The CornBelters will continue its community partnership with Special Olympics Illinois this summer as the Special Olympics Illinois Summer Games will be held June 15-17 in Bloomington-Normal.

The CornBelters will feature Special Olympics Illinois as the community spotlight partner for their game on Sunday, July 1 at The Corn Crib, presented by Illinois Corn Growers. The CornBelters will host the Florence Freedom with first pitch slated for 6:05 p.m. The gates will open at 5:05 p.m.

The game will also be the third and final day of "Jose Canseco Weekend" presented by the Town of Normal. Former Major League Baseball player Jose Canseco will serve as the Normal CornBelter's designated hitter for the weekend.

Special Olympics Illinois Regional Director Jim Fitzpatrick said, "We are proud to be able to work alongside the Normal CornBelters for this Community Spotlight game. It's always great to have local organizations support our athletes and families in Central Illinois. It's also nice to see other athletes rally around our athletes. It's a win-win for all involved."

Fans can purchase tickets to the July 1 game night while supporting Special Olympics Illinois by using the promo code "SOILL." For each reserved box seat, half of the proceeds will go to Special Olympics Illinois (for a $10 ticket, $5 will be donated). DETAILS ON THE SPECIAL OLYMPICS ILLINOIS SUMMER GAMES

The Special Olympics Illinois' Summer Games are to be held in Bloomington-Normal June 15-17. Summer Games will host over 4,000 athletes competing in various sports throughout the weekend. Most of the events will be held on Illinois State University's campus. Select events will be held at other locations in Bloomington-Normal. The Normal CornBelters will be participating in the Special Olympics Illinois' Olympic Village on Saturday, June 16. The CornBelters' mascot Corny will be available from 9-3 p.m. to meet participants and volunteers of Special Olympics. The CornBelters will also have activities set up at their booth for kids to enjoy.
