Grand Rapids Griffins News Release
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Detroit Red Wings on Thursday assigned goaltender Jared Coreau to the Grand Rapids Griffins.
The 6-foot-5, 230-pound goaltender enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2014-15, producing a 16-8-1 record in 25 games with the Griffins, alongside a 2.20 goals against average, a 0.927 save percentage and three shutouts. Last season, Coreau began his campaign with a six-game winning streak, tying a franchise record previously set by Petr Mrazek in 2012-13 and Tom McCollum in 2013-14.
Coreau, 23, later strung together a seven-game winning streak from Jan. 24-Feb. 18 and, within that span, became the second Griffin ever to post back-to-back road shutouts (Jan. 29-30). The undrafted netminder was selected as the CCM/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Feb. 1 and rode his consecutive shutouts to a franchise-record shutout streak of 160:06 from Jan. 24-Feb. 6.
A native of Perth, Ontario, Coreau also appeared in eight games with the ECHL's Toledo Walleye last season and turned out a 3.01 GAA, a 0.897 save percentage and a 5-2-0 record.
Prior to opening their regular season, the Griffins will conclude training camp with a pair of neutral-site preseason games against the Lake Erie Monsters this weekend. Grand Rapids will first battle the Monsters tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. at the Bowling Green State University Ice Arena, home to the WCHA's BGSU Falcons, before facing off again on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at the Windsor Family Credit Union Centre in Windsor, Ontario, where the OHL's Windsor Spitfires play. The Griffins will drop the puck on their regular season with an Oct. 9-10 road trip to Bakersfield and San Diego, marking their 20th campaign overall, 15th as members of the American Hockey League and 14th as the primary affiliate of the Red Wings. The following weekend, Grand Rapids will kick off the home portion of its schedule with back-to-back games against the San Antonio Rampage on Oct. 16-17 at 7 p.m. at Van Andel Arena.
