Wausau Woodchucks News Release
Wausau, WIS - The newly renovated Athletic Park construction is in its final stages as the Woodchucks open their season this Friday, May 30.
Construction on the project is putting the finishing touches on the new grandstand area. Included in this renovation are 288 20" fixed chair seats. Eight half-moon tables of four are located directly behind home-plate on the game field level. The new grandstand area will also include a new walk-in team store, concession stand, and two new ticket booths. In addition, the third level of the grandstand will feature three new climate controlled luxury boxes and new elevator that reaches every level of the new grandstand.
The construction crew has done a marvelous job given the miserable winter that they worked through. The average temperature during the construction period, starting August 15 was 17 degrees. The crew faced a total of 60 days in which the temperature was below zero degrees.
The Samuels Group, the general contractors of the renovation, had over 200 workers on the project. They estimated that all together they poured over 1000 yards of concrete for the total renovation.
Using local companies and products was a priority for the Woodchucks as 50 different local companies either worked or supplied materials throughout the project. In addition, over 50% of the Contractors and Suppliers came from Central Wisconsin and over 90% of them came from Wisconsin.
The Wisconsin Woodchucks open the season Friday, May 30 against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters. First pitch will be set for 7:05 p.m. with gates opening 90 minutes before first pitch. Fans are encouraged to come and check out our brand new Pepsi Fan-Zone area which is the new park adjacent to the new stadium.
