Connecticut Sun Set To Go Red For Women Against New York On July 15th

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (June 18, 2008) - The Connecticut Sun is pleased to announce that it has joined with Go Red for Women and the American Heart Association to help fight back against heart disease, the number one killer of women in the United States.

Go Red for Women and the American Heart Association will be recognized as an inaugural member of the Connecticut Sun Community All Stars Program, which strives to team up with organizations that share its commitment to youth health, fitness and families. The groups will partner together to promote heart health awareness when the Connecticut Sun take on the New York Liberty Tuesday, June 15th. The Sun will provide an opportunity for five heart disease survivors and supporters to participate in the pre-game ball exchange at center court.

"The Connecticut Sun is proud to partner with Go Red For Women and the American Heart Association on an issue that affects our players, coaches, fans and women around the world," Connecticut Sun General Manager Chris Sienko said. "We are eager to do our part to educate the community about the dangers associated with heart disease."

In addition to the ball exchange, information about Go Red For Women and the American Heart Association programs and other issues will be available through in-game features and along the Mohegan Sun Arena concourse throughout the game.

All fans who register for Go Red For Women will be entered to win an autographed Connecticut Sun basketball. Connecticut Sun players will all wear Go Red For Women t-shirts during pre-game warm ups.

"We are so proud of the commitment of the WNBA, the Connecticut Sun and its players to help us fight heart disease by supporting the Go Red For Women movement," said Dr. Anthea Woodley of Mansfield Cardiovascular Care in Willimantic and Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and of the American Heart Association. "The players on the Connecticut Sun team have such a unique opportunity to serve as role models and impress upon thousands of local women the importance of heart health."
