St. Lucie Mets News Release

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - St. Lucie starter P.J. Conlon flirted with a perfect game and the Mets trounced the Daytona Tortugas 8-1 at Tradition Field on Friday.

Conlon retired 17 straight batters to start the game. A 2-2 pitch to Jonathan Reynoso with two outs in the sixth just missed its mark as Conlon and the rest of the defense took a step towards the dugout thinking it was a called third strike. Instead a ball was called, the at-bat continued and Reynoso blooped a pitch into center field to give the Tortugas their first base runner.

Ronald Bueno followed with a RBI double. Conlon recovered to get Blake Trahan on a fly out to end his night.

Conlon struck out four and allowed one run on two hits in six innings. He only threw 70 pitches. Conlon needed just 43 pitches to toss five perfect innings.

The Mets offense gave Conlon all the runs he needed in a four-run first inning. David Thompson clubbed a two-run double and Luis Guillorme smacked a two-run single.

Kevin Kaczmarski tripled home Patrick Biondi in the second to put the Mets ahead 5-0.

The Mets scored three runs in the sixth to go up 8-1. Vinny Siena lifted a sac fly and Tomas Nido stung a RBI single in the frame.

Kaczmarski, in his third game with St. Lucie, went 3 for 4 with a single, double and triple. Needing a home run for the cycle in the eighth, he walked.

Tomas Nido went 3 for 5 and improved his batting average to .321, leap frogging teammate Wuilmer Becerra for the top spot in the FSL.

Guillorme went 3 for 4.

The Mets collected 15 hits. Every Mets batter recorded a hit.

Next Up: The Mets (47-41, 12-9) go for the four-game series sweep of the Tortugas (47-41, 11-8) on Saturday. The Mets have not swept a team in a multi-game series this year. First pitch from Tradition Field is 6:30 p.m.

For the Fans: For $15 adult fans can get a game ticket and all-you-can-drink Blue Point beer from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The first 500 fans receive a free Mets coloring book courtesy of Delta.
