Compass Minerals to Support Sporting KC's Kick Childhood Cancer Match
September 22, 2023 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Sporting Kansas City News Release
Compass Minerals, jersey front sponsor of Sporting Kansas City, is proud to serve as the title night sponsor for the club's annual Kick Childhood Cancer match on Saturday, Sept. 23. Compass Minerals and Sporting KC jointly announced today a teddy bear giveaway for the first 2,000 young fans to enter Children's Mercy Park for this special match.
In addition, Compass Minerals will donate over 1,000 teddy bears to Children's Mercy for children battling cancer in honor of the Kick Childhood Cancer campaign. Sporting KC players will help distribute the teddy bears to pediatric patients at Children's Mercy during monthly play dates in partnership with The Victory Project.
"At Compass Minerals, we take pride in being an engaged corporate citizen by supporting organizations like The Victory Project and Children's Mercy, who do so much to positively impact young people in our community dealing with significant challenges," said Compass Minerals President and CEO Kevin S. Crutchfield. "Doing our part to help enrich lives through our partnership with Sporting is something we deeply value."
Headquartered in Overland Park, Kansas, Compass Minerals has actively supported numerous community initiatives since the company's multi-faceted partnership with Sporting began in 2018. The official plant nutrition and salt provider of Sporting Kansas City and the Sporting Club Network, Compass Minerals serves as an associate partner of The Victory Project and the naming rights partner for Sporting KC's world-class training facility, Compass Minerals National Performance Center, and the nearby youth soccer complex, Compass Minerals Sporting Fields, in Kansas City, Kansas.
Sporting Kansas City established The Victory Project in 2013 to help children battling cancer by uniting players, staff, fans and partners across the region through numerous events and initiatives. This month, Sporting KC celebrates The Victory Project's 10 years of community impact during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
On Saturday, each past Victory Project Honoree is invited to return to Children's Mercy Park for a special matchday experience that will include a pre-match tailgate and halftime recognition as well as on-field experiences with the opportunity to be part of the warm-up tunnel, walk of champions and I Believe chant prior to kickoff.
In conjunction with MLS WORKS, all MLS matches in the month of September feature a commemorative Kick Childhood Cancer match ball, gold corner flags, goal nets and jersey patches as well as pre-match tops, captain's armbands and referee wristbands to raise awareness for pediatric cancer research and treatment. Kick Childhood Cancer content also continues to be prominently featured across Major League Soccer's social and digital channels as well as MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
Sporting Kansas City will host the Houston Dynamo at 7:30 p.m. CT on Saturday at Children's Mercy Park. Gates will open at 6 p.m. and tickets are available online at SeatGeek, including the Coca-Cola Friends & Family 4 Pack. Ticket holders can pre-order Sporting's Kick Childhood Cancer pre-match tops, t-shirts and scarves at SportingStyle.com and a portion of all jersey sales on Saturday will benefit The Victory Project. Fans can also contribute to The Victory Project by purchasing Victory Lemonade or bags of Parisi Coffee at Children's Mercy Park on Saturday.
