February 3, 2004 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2)
Kansas City Comets News Release

The Comets enter the week with an 8-14 record for second place in the Central Division. The Comets are nine and a half games behind the Milwaukee Wave and one game ahead of the St. Louis Steamers.

The Comets are busy with three games this week, including two at home. The Comets play five games at Kemper Arena this month.

The Baltimore Blast and the Comets play at 10:35 a.m. on Wednesday, February 4 at Kemper Arena for the Comets School Day game. Fifty-nine schools and over 10,000 elementary students are expected to attend. The game features a Lewis and Clark theme, which was chosen because 2004 is the bicentennial of their journey across the western United States.

After Saturday's 11-4 loss, Kansas City is now 1-2 against Baltimore and 0-1 at Kemper Arena. A 10-6 loss came on January 2 at Kemper. The Comets won the first meeting 7-6 in overtime on December 13 in Baltimore. It will be Kansas City and Baltimore's regular season finale.

The Comets travel to Milwaukee on Thursday, February 5 for a 7 p.m. game against the Central Division leading Milwaukee Wave. Kansas City is in second place, and it needs a win to help catch the Wave.

Kansas City is 1-2 against Milwaukee and 0-1 at U.S. Cellular Arena. The Comets suffered a 15-6 loss at U.S. Cellular Arena on November 14. The Comets won the teams' last meeting 8-6 at Kemper Arena on January 16. Kansas City held Milwaukee to only one goal in the second half, and it added five of its own for the win. Milwaukee won the teams' second meeting 7-4 at Kemper on December 14. The teams will meet again in Milwaukee on March 6 and in Kansas City on March 12.

Watch Thursday's game live on Channel 38 The Spot. It will also be replayed at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, February 6 and at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 10.

On Saturday, the Comets return to Kemper Arena for a game against the Dallas Sidekicks. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. Famous mascots, including the Pillsbury Doughboy, the KU Jayhawk, Dynamo from the KC Wizards and Sizzle from the KC T-Bones, will play a soccer game during halftime.

The Comets will look for their first win against the Sidekicks this season. Losses came on January 3 (7-5), December 31 (9-8 in overtime in KC) and December 7 (10-4). Dallas is the only team to beat Kansas City in an overtime game.

Baltimore jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first quarter, but two goals by the Comets evened the score at 2-2. Matt Tanzini and Brian Soell tied up the game for the Comets. It would be the closest the Comets would come in the game. The Comets attempted a comeback in the fourth quarter with early goals by Sandre Naumoski and Matt Tanzini, but the Blast responded and finished the game with three more goals. The Comets fall to 8-14; Baltimore improves to 17-6.
