Philadelphia KiXX News Release

Philadelphia, PA, February 3, 2004 – The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) announced today that Philadelphia KiXX defender Pat Morris and goalkeeper Peter Pappas have been honored for their play in the month of January; Morris was named the League's Defensive Player of the Month, his first monthly accolade of the season, while Pappas was honored as the MISL Goalkeeper of the Month for the second time in 2003-04.

Morris solidified the KiXX defense with a team-high 19 blocks in the club's eight contests during the month. The 26-year old defender rejected a season-high seven shots versus the Monterrey Fury at the Monterrey Arena on January 29. Morris also recorded five points on three goals and a pair of assists in January, including a pair of goals in the club's 7-3 victory over the Cleveland Force on the final day in the month (1/31). He now ranks second in the MISL with 46 blocks this season and is tied for fifth on the team's scoring list with 16 points on 12 goals and four assists. The Philadelphia native was previously honored as the MISL Defender of the Week for the seven-day periods ending December 28 and January 11.

The two-time all-star was named to the All-Rookie team in 1999-00 and to an All-League team twice, 2001-02 and 2002-03. The Philadelphia University graduate finished his collegiate career fourth all-time in school history with 49 goals and 120 points. Morris was an All-State selection and two-time All-Catholic League honoree at his alma mater, Northeast Catholic High School.

Pappas posted a 4-2 record, turning away 96 of the 119 shots he faced in six contests, to finish the month of January with a 3.63 goals against average and an impressive .807 save percentage. The native of Toronto, Ontario completely shut down the San Diego Sockers on January 17, stopping all 16 shots he faced en route to a 5-0 shutout. His performance marked the first shutout in the modern-day MISL and the third of his professional indoor career. Pappas also recorded a shutout versus the Florida Thundercats on April 2, 1999 and a combined shutout win over Florida on March 27, 1999; he played the first 48:27 of the game, while teammate Keith Englehardt stepped in for the final 11:13.

The six-time all-star now ranks second in the MISL in save percentage (0.762), third in victories (12), goals against average (4.48) and saves (259) and fourth in minutes played (1,084). Pappas was also named the League's Goalkeeper of the Week for the seven-day periods ending October 5, October 12, January 18 and February 1 and Goalkeeper of the Month honors for his play throughout the month of October.

The eight-year veteran has been named to six all-star squads, four of which he was selected to start, and five all-league teams in his career. Last season, Pappas received Player-of-the-Week honors three times (seven-day periods ending November 3, February 9 and March 23) and Player-of-the-Month honors for his play in the month of November. Overall in his career, the Philadelphia University graduate has received Player-of-the Week honors 15 times, as well as eight Player-of-the-Month honors.

Morris, Pappas and the rest of the KiXX return to action this Saturday, February 7 to welcome the defending MISL Champion Baltimore Blast to the Wachovia Spectrum. The night, dubbed "Christian Night," includes post-game testimonials from various professional athletes and a live concert featuring national recording artist, KJ-52. The contest is slated to kick-off at 7:05 pm ET and will be televised live on CN8, Philadelphia's premiere cable network.
