Brockton Rox News Release

WORCESTER, MA - (September 6, 2009) - The Brockton Rox pushed its win streak to seven games on Sunday afternoon in Worcester with a come-from-behind 7-4 win over the Worcester Tornadoes. With the win, the Rox lead the New Jersey Jackals by a full game with one game to play. New Jersey has two games remaining.

What began as a tight pitchers' duel ended with the teams combining to score nine runs in the final three innings. Worcester scored the first run of the game in the second inning on an RBI single by CF Vinny Pennell off Rox starter LHP Craig Anderson. It was the only run scored against Anderson, who was making his final regular season tune up before starting game two of the Can-Am League Playoffs on Thursday in Quebec. Anderson pitched three innings and allowed one run on three hits with a walk and a strikeout.

His strikeout of SS Greg Lemon to start the third inning was the 1,000th of his career.

After the Rox had tied the game in the fifth inning on RF Keith Brachold's RBI triple, Worcester re-established the lead with a sacrifice fly by DH Alex Trezza in the seventh inning.

The doors then collapsed on the Worcester bullpen and the Rox offense awakened. The Rox took its first lead of the game in the eighth inning with two runs off of reliever LHP Chris Anderson. 2B Derek Kinzler scored on a groundout, and DH Palmer Karr gave the Rox a 3-2 lead when he scored on 3B Phillip Cuadrado's sacrifice fly.

Worcester took the lead back in the bottom of the eighth on 1B Nick Salotti's two-run double, but that lead would not last. RHP Santiago Ramirez came out for the ninth to try and close out the game, but suffered a miserable ninth. He walked the first two batters, then allowed a bunt single to load the bases. Brachold then delivered again with a two-run single to put the Rox in front to stay. He and SS Dominic Ramos later scored in the inning to extend the lead to 7-4.

Rox closer RHP Jerry Dunn earned his 23rd save of the season with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

The Rox will finish the 2009 regular season on Monday in Worcester with a chance to sweep the team's seventh series of the season. Monday's first pitch is scheduled for 3:05 PM at Hanover Insurance Park. RHP Jeff Long (6-4, 3.57 ERA) will start for the Rox.
