Amarillo Dillas News Release
AMARILLO, TX - Amarillo Dillas catcher Matt Ceriani came into Monday's game with the Laredo Broncos with two RBIs. He left the game with seven RBI including the game winner as the Dillas came from behind down four runs for the second straight night against the Broncos, winning 10-9 in ten innings in front of 3,503 fans at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.
Dillas closer Ramon Geronimo (1-0) got the win, pitching the tenth inning, while Broncos reliever Jeff Jamnik (0-1) got the loss, giving up the winning run in the tenth. Dillas designated hitter Carlos Figueroa went 3-3 with four runs scored and reached base all six times he came to the plate in the effort.
The Dillas got on the board first in the second inning as TJ Warren walked, went to third on a Cory Wine single and scored on Jermel Lomack's first RBI of the season for a 1-0 lead. The Broncos took the lead in the fourth with a Doug Thennis three-run homerun, followed by an RBI double by Ryan Flynn for a three-run advantage. Amarillo struck back in the bottom half with a leadoff homerun by Ceriani to cut the lead to 4-2.
The Dillas would score again in the fifth as Figueroa scored on an error, but Laredo responded in the sixth with an RBI single by Jason Diaz, who would later come across on an error for a three-run Broncos lead. In the seventh, Laredo added another with a Thennis RBI groundout for a 7-3 lead.
Amarillo would cut the lead in half in the seventh as Joaquin Rodriguez walked, followed by a Figueroa walk. A wild pitch sent the runners to second and third, while Ceriani singled to right field to score both Dillas for a 7-5 score. The Broncos added an insurance run in the eighth as Ryan Flynn led off with a double, went to third and scored on a pair of sacrifice bunts. Laredo added another in the ninth on a Flynn RBI sacrifice fly for a 9-5 advantage.
The Dillas started the comeback in the ninth. With one out, Figueroa tripled, followed by an Alberto Cruz walk. Ceriani singled to right to score Figueroa and put runners on the corners. Stephen Douglas stepped in and hit an infield single to score Cruz. Following a Warren single that loaded the bases, Wine walked to bring Amarillo within a run. Lomack stepped up and hit a sacrifice fly to left which scored Douglas to tie the game 9-9 at the end of nine innings.
Geronimo pitched a perfect tenth, which opened the door in the bottom half. Figueroa drew a one-out walk, followed by a Cruz walk. Ceriani stepped in and sent a 3-2 pitch down the third base line which bounced off the bag and scored Figueroa from second for a 10-9 comeback win.
