Laredo Broncos News Release
June 7th, AMARILLO, TX - The Broncos (3-9) took a four run lead into the ninth inning, only to see the Dillas (7-5) score four in the ninth and one in the tenth to walk off the win.
The newly acquired RHP Juan Peralta (0-1 ) made his first start for the Broncos and his first start of 2010 after coming over in a trade with the White Wings on June 5th for a player to be named.
Peralta allowed one hit in each of the first three innings to the Dillas. In the second T.J Warren walked and after a single moved him to third Jermel Lomack gave the Dillas the 1-0 lead on the RBI fielders choice.
It would stay 1-0 Dillas until the top of the fourth when the Broncos Kenny Gilbert led things off with an infield single against Richard Jessup (0-1), the starter for the Dillas. A ground out moved Gilbert to second, and a Dustin Spruill single put runners on the corners with one out. Doug Thennis came up and belted his second home run of the year to put the Broncos up 3-1. Gabe Memmert would then single and after a Bradley Goldsmith fly out, Ryan Flynn lined a double into the gap for a 4-1 Broncos lead.
Peralta, in the bottom of the fourth would allow a Matt Ceriani solo home run to cut the lead to 4-2 Broncos.
In the bottom of the fifth an Adam De La Garza groundout started the inning. Joaquin Rodriguez then singled. Carlos Figueroa then singled. Peralta then threw a wild pitch that moved up both runners, followed by a walk to Alberto Cruz to load the bases. Matt Ceriani hit a weak grounder fielded by Peralta off the mound, he threw to Spruill at the plate to retire Rodriguez. Spruill then threw over the head of Nick Mahin, the Bronco first baseman and that allowed Figeuroa to come all the way around from second to score. 4-3 Broncos lead.
To the top of the sixth with Richard Jessup, the Dillas starter still throwing Memmert would double. After a pop out and a ground out Jason Diaz came up and lined an RBI single into right field and the score was 5-3 Broncos. Diaz would steal second and then Wolgamot reached on an error. Diaz never stopped running and came all the way around third to score and push the lead to 6-3 Broncos.
In the top of the seventh with Brent Buffa now throwing for the Dillas, Nick Mahin singled, followed by a Spruill single that sent Mahin to third base. Doug Thennis then came up and hit an RBI groundout to pick up his fourth RBI of the game and the Broncos led 7-3.
Peralta, in all, went 5.2 IP allowing eight hits, three runs, only two were earned, and he walked four and struck out five.
In the bottom of the seventh with Michael Lucas on in relief the Dillas were gifted two straight walks to start the inning. Alberto Cruz would strike out but Matt Ceriani lined a two run single and make the score 7-5 Broncos.
In the top of the eighth with Dane Little on the mound for the Dillas Flynn doubled, Diaz moved him over with the SAC bunt and Ben Wolgamot knocked him in with a suicide squeeze bunt to make the score 8-5 Broncos.
For insurance the Broncos would add one more in the ninth off Little. Spruill was hit by a pitch, then Thennis walked. Memmert moved both runners over with a SAC bunt and Ryan Flynn picked up his second RBI of the day with a SAC fly to make the score 9-5 Broncos.
To the bottom of the ninth we go with Jonathan Miller the Broncos closer on the mound. He would get Joaquin Rodriguez to fly out for the first out of the inning and then Figeuroa tripled. Alberto Cruz walked, followed by an RBI single by Matt Ceriani to make the score 9-6 Broncos. An infield single by Stephen Douglas knocked home another Dilla run and the score was 9-7 Broncos. A single by T.J Warren loaded the bases and Manager Firova went to the bullpen.
Jeff Jamnik came in to replace Miller, and Jamnik immediately walked the first hitter he faced to push home a run and make the score 9-8 Broncos. Jermel Lomack then hit a SAC fly to tie the game at 9-9 and send it to extra innings.
In the tenth the Broncos went 1-2-3 and Jamnik came back out for his second inning of work. Jamnik retired Joaquin Rodriguez to begin the inning, but then walked the next two batters he faced.
With one out and runners on first and third Ceriani hit a ground ball to third that Wolgamot squared up. Right before he fielded it, the ball hit the bag, bounced over his head and into left field. Figeuroa came all the way around from second to score and walk it off 10-9 for the Dillas.
