Altoona Curve News Release
HARTFORD, Conn. - Despite bringing four runs across the plate in the seventh and eighth innings, the Altoona Curve lost to the Hartford Yard Goats, 8-5, on Sunday afternoon at Dunkin' Donuts Park.
The Curve (26-26) left 11 runners on base in the game and lost two-of-three on the road trip to the Yard Goats (28-29).
The Curve struck for the first run of the game in the top of the second inning. With two outs and two on, Stephen Alemais brought home Bryan Reynolds with a single.
Hartford answered in the bottom of the second with three runs, all unearned, assisted by a pair of defensive errors by the Curve.
Ryan Metzlier extended the Hartford lead to 4-1 in the third with a sacrifice fly. Brian Mundell and Don Nunez brought in runs in the fourth against Altoona starter Pedro Vasquez (Loss, 0-3) to open a 6-1 Hartford lead.
Vasquez stranded the bases loaded in the fifth to complete his day. He finished his day with six runs allowed (three earned) on eight hits with four strikeouts over five innings.
Hartford starter Chris Jensen (Win, 1-2) allowed one run on seven hits over five innings with five strikeouts.
In the sixth, Ryan Metzler drove an RBI single and Dom Nunez scored on a wild pitch by Geoff Harlieb as the Yard Goats opened an 8-1 lead.
The Curve started to chip away in the seventh. After a lead-off by pinch-hitter Logan Ratledge, Cole Tucker and Ke'Bryan Hayes hit back-to-back RBI doubles to cut the Hartford lead to 8-3.
In the top of the eighth, Tucker singled to center to plate Alemais, and a fielding error by center fielder Forrest Wall allowed Jordan George to score, cutting the deficit to three.
Will Craig stepped in representing the tying run with two on and two outs, but was sat down on strikes. Craig left seven runners on base in the game, including five with two outs.
After a day off on Monday, the Curve return home to begin a three-game series against the Reading Fightin Phils on Tuesday night.
