New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays) were swept in a doubleheader by the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (Mets) on Sunday at NYSEG Stadium. Game one favored the 'Ponies 4-2 while the 'Cats fell 5-1 in the second tilt.
GAME ONE
For the first time in the series, Binghamton got on the board before New Hampshire. Back-to-back bases loaded walks in the bottom of the third forced in a pair of runs to give the Rumble Ponies a 2-0 advantage.
Gunnar Heidt's first dinger of the season came with a man on base in the fourth inning, but that proved to be the only runs the 'Cats would score in a 4-2 loss after Binghamton scored single tallies in the fourth and fifth to retake the lead and win game one.
GAME TWO
A five-run second proved to be all the scoring Binghamton would need. After consecutive outs to start the frame, the Rumble Ponies loaded the bases for Jeff McNeil, who slugged a grand slam that put the 'Ponies up 4-0. The Mets affiliate added another run in the inning to lead 5-0 after two.
The Fisher Cats avoided being shutout for the first time this season thanks to an RBI single from Pat Cantwell in the fourth, but that would be all the offense for New Hampshire as the 'Cats fell 5-1.
After an off day on Monday, the Fisher Cats return to Northeast Delta Dental Stadium on Tuesday for the first of six games against Akron (Indians) and Bowie (Orioles), who make their first and only visits to Manchester this season. Tickets are available at nhfishercats.com.
