Amarillo Dillas News Release

HARLINGEN, TX - A four-run fourth inning deficit was one-run too much for the Amarillo Dillas to overcome as the first-half champion Rio Grande Valley White Wings held on for a 4-3 win at Harlingen Field in front of 950 fans on Tuesday night.

Dillas starter Jorge Lugo (5-4) got the loss despite six quality innings were he gave up three earned runs and seven hits while striking out six. White Wings starter Julian Williams (4-4) went six innings and allowed only one earned run while allowing five hits in the victory. Rio Grande Valley closer Derek Bennett earned his 14th save despite allowing a ninth inning hit.

The White Wings scored three runs in the first two innings off four hits and an error. After a solo homerun by Danilo Reynoso put Rio Grande Valley up 4-0 in the fourth, Amarillo would begin the comeback.

In the fifth, the Dillas led off with a Jack Chapman double while an error put Josh Ashton on first. After a Jordan Ramos walk loaded the bases, Jonathan Reynoso singled to score two runs while Ramos scored on an error to bring the deficit within a run at 4-3.

Despite numerous chances, Amarillo could not bring home another run through the eighth inning. In the ninth, the Dillas came up against All-Star closer Bennett and led off with a Chapman single. After a double play, Rick Owens Jr. battled but ended the game with a strikeout to hand the Dillas a 4-3 defeat.

With the loss, the Dillas fall to 15-13 on the second-half of the season and 41-37 overall.
