San Angelo Colts News Release
SAN ANGELO, Texas - The San Angelo Colts (14-14) committed five errors leading to four unearned runs on Tuesday night, as the Alexandria Aces (22-6) defeated the Colts 8-3 for their second straight victory in San Angelo.
The Colts still have not had a lead in this series, as they fell behind early again when the Aces took a 3-0 edge in the third off Colts starter Darryll Roque. Catcher Wyn Diggs made a throwing error after fielding a bunt to allow the first run of the inning to score. Selwyn Langaigne brought home a run on a fielder's choice and Palmer Karr made it 3-0 with an RBI double.
San Angelo got on the board in the bottom of the third when Alexandria starter Luis Galarraga gave up a solo home run to Jose Torres, his second of the year.
The Aces regained a three-run lead, at 4-1, in the fifth when Josh Tranum singled home Richard Paz, who led off the inning with a double. The Colts once again trimmed the lead in the bottom of the inning, as Bryce Morrison hit an RBI double to make it 4-2, but that was as close as they came.
An errant throw by third baseman Jason Crosland opened the door for Alexandria to score two unearned runs in the seventh to take a 6-2 advantage. After Torres picked up his second RBI of the night in the bottom of the seventh with a single to make it 6-3, the Aces scored two more runs, one unearned, in the eighth. San Angelo committed two more errors in the frame, including a dropped pop-up by center fielder Brett Donahoo that led to an unearned run to give the Alexandria an 8-3 lead.
Galarraga improved to 7-3 with the win as he lasted 6 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on six hits with six strikeouts and one walk. Roque fell to 2-7 with the loss as he threw six innings, allowing four runs, three earned, on seven hits with four strikeouts and one walk.
Three Alexandria relievers, Adam Frey, Juan Ovalles, and Charlie Foster, combined to pitch 2 2/3 hitless innings to close out the win.
The Colts continue this seven-game homestand with game three of this four-game series against Alexandria at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday, August 1; it will be the rescheduled Weiner Dog Races at Foster Field, sponsored by PETCO and All Caring.
