Edinburg Roadrunners News Release

SAN ANGELO, Texas---The Edinburg Roadrunners scored three runs in the ninth but the rally fell short as they lost 7-5 to the San Angelo Colts Sunday night at Foster Field.

Edinburg had the tying runners on base but left them stranded in the top of the ninth inning. Their lead for first in the United League standings is just one game over the Amarillo Dillas, pending the outcome of their second game against the Coastal Bend Thunder.

Ronnie Gaines got the scoring started in the bottom of the first with a solo home run off of Wardell Starling (7-2) giving San Angelo the 1-0 lead.

The Colts (38-39) extended their lead in the bottom of the second when Landon Camp hit a two-run home run off of Evan Cunningham, who came in for an injured Starling, making it 3-0.

In the bottom of the fifth, Mark Ramos singled and then went to second after Joshua Collazo was walked. Jason Landreth followed with an RBI double to right field scoring Ramos from second. Alex Fernandez then hit an RBI single to left field that allowed Landreth to score extending San Angelo's lead 5-0.

Isaac Garcia made the score 7-0 Colts after a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The Roadrunners (44-31) got on the board against San Angelo in the top of the seventh. Wilmer Pino started things with a single to left then moved to third after Daryl Jones doubled. Nelson Teilon followed with a two-run single scoring Pino and Jones making it 7-2 San Angelo.

Edinburg made it interesting in the ninth against reliever Chase Vacek. Pino led off with a single and then moved to second on a fielding error. Robert Matlock then hit an RBI single to right field scoring Pino from second. Jones then hit a single to left that put runners on first and second for Wilson Batista who followed with an RBI single to right allowing Matlock to score. With runners on the corners, Carlos Hereaud hit an RBI fielder's choice scoring Jones from third. Vacek got the final out of the inning to give San Angelo the 7-5 victory.

Logan Williamson (2-2) got the victory after pitching six and two-third innings and allowing two runs while scattering seven hits.

The Roadrunners and Colts will play the second game of this four-game series on Monday night at Foster Field. Mark DiBernardo is expected to face Brian Henshcel with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
