Columbus Reassigns Goertzen to Syracuse

Syracuse, NY (February 7, 2006) - The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the Columbus Blue Jackets have reassigned right wing Steven Goertzen to Syracuse. The team also announced that goaltender Mike Ayers has been recalled from Dayton (ECHL).

Goertzen, 21, has appeared in 39 games with Columbus this season, recording 44 penalty minutes. In 15 games with Syracuse this season, Goertzen has tallied 3 goals, 2 assists and 24 penalty minutes. In 80 career AHL games, all with Syracuse, Goertzen has registered 5 goals, 12 assists and 128 penalty minutes. A native of Stony Plain, Alberta, Goertzen was selected by Columbus in the seventh round, 225th overall, in the 2002 Entry Draft.

Ayers, 26, has appeared in 21 games with Dayton this season, posting a 7-12-1 record, a 3.57 goals against average and a .889 save percentage. In nine games with Syracuse this season, Ayers had posted a 5-3-0 record, a 2.80 goals against average and .909 save percentage. A native of Hingham, Massachusetts, Ayers signed an AHL contract with Syracuse on November 17, 2005.
