Columbus Crew SC News Release
COLUMBUS - Columbus Crew today announced that the club has re-signed defender Steven Moreira through the 2025 season with a Club option for 2026. The France native joined the Black & Gold in 2021 and has made 82 appearances in all competitions, recording two goals and 15 assists.
"We are excited to announce that we have re-signed Steven to a new contract," said Crew President & General Manager Tim Bezbatchenko. "Since joining the Crew, Steven has been a loyal and dependable asset to the Club, showing his leadership, skill and tenacity since the moment he sported the Black & Gold. His work ethic on and off the field serves as an example to his teammates, and how he values his connection with our supporters."
A resilient defender, Moreira was acquired by the Crew from Toulouse FC on Aug. 23, 2021, and made seven regular-season appearances (six starts) in his first season with the Club. In 2022, he played in 32 regular season matches (32 starts), registering one goal and eight assists.
In 2023, Moreira made 34 appearances (33 starts) and provided five assists in the regular season before starting all six postseason matches and recording one assist. During his three seasons in Columbus, Moreira captured the 2021 Campeones Cup, 2023 Eastern Conference Championship and the 2023 MLS Cup.
At the international level, Moreira has earned one cap for the Cape Verde National Team, making his debut against Algeria in an international friendly on Oct. 12 at Stade Chahid Hamlaoui. Moreira also represented France at various youth levels including the 2013 UEFA European Under-19 Championship, helping earn a second-place finish.
