Passion of South American Fútbol Coming to DRV PNK Stadium with Club Universitario and Atletico Nacional Friendly

DRV PNK Stadium announced today a third international fixture in January 2024, with Inter Miami CF's home set to host the friendly between renowned Peruvian side Club Universitario and historic Colombian club Atlético Nacional on Sunday, Jan. 14. Kick off time for the thrilling matchup is set for 6 p.m. ET..

Both sides are no strangers to DRV PNK Stadium, with Universitario and Atlético Nacional set to visit the venue for a second time. Universitario previously faced Inter Miami CF in January 2022 in what marked the first-ever international friendly for the Club. Nacional, meanwhile, played once at Inter Miami's home ground in 2023, taking on archrivals Millonarios FC in the Colombian Clasico in July.

Club Universitario de Deportes, commonly known as La U or Los Cremas, is a Peruvian team based in Lima, Peru that was founded in 1924. Since then, Universitario has gone on to become the winningest team in Peruvian fútbol, with 27 league titles, and one of the most popular teams in the country. Internationally, Universitario has participated in 48 continental club competitions, being the Peruvian side that has competed in the most international tournaments to date. The team plays its home matches at the Estadio Monumental that has capacity for over 80,000 fans, making it the second largest stadium in South America. Notably, Universitario were recently crowned 2023 Peruvian First Division champions last month.

Atlético Nacional, meanwhile, are the winningest team in Colombian with 17 Colombian First Division titles, while also boasting two CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores titles, two CONMEBOL Copa Merconorte titles, two Copa Interamericana titles, five Copa Colombia titles, three Superliga titles and a Recopa Sudamericana title in their trophy collection. Among the best players to don La Máquina Verde's jersey are iconic and extravagant goalkeeper René Higuita (1986-92, 1993-97) and 2022 FIFA World Cup-winning Argentine goalkeeper Franco Armani (2010-18), and many others.
