
St. Louis CITY SC Acquires USYNT Midfielder Chris Durkin from D.C. United Via Trade

ST. LOUIS - St. Louis CITY SC has acquired United States Youth National team and D.C. United defensive midfielder Chris Durkin for CITY SC midfielder Jared Stroud, defender Lucas Bartlett and $300,000 in 2024 General Allocation Money. Durkin will occupy a U-22 initiative roster spot.
"Chris is a young talented defensive midfielder, who has gained a ton of great experience here in the U.S., over in Europe and with the youth national team," said Sporting Director Lutz Pfannenstiel. "He has a hard working, ambitious and fighter mentality that makes him a good fit for this club."

Durkin has amassed a vast amount of experience across multiple levels of the soccer landscape and will turn just 24 in February of 2024. During a three-year stint at the USL level, the Hampton, Virginia, native signed a Homegrown deal with D.C. at 16 and made his MLS debut in March of 2018. He played a season-and-a-half with D.C. before he jumped to Europe to play with Belgian First Division Sint-Truidense V.V.
Durkin signed on loan with Sint-Truidense V.V. on August 30, 2019, before joining on a permanent transfer on May 7, 2020. In three seasons with the Belgian side, Durkin scored two goals and recorded five assists in 70 appearances across all competitions. The midfielder made his debut for the Belgian side on Sept. 25, 2019 in the 2-0 win against OH Leuven in the Sixth Round of the Beker van Belgie, a domestic cup in Belgium. The 23-year-old scored his first goal for Sint-Truidense on February 8, 2020, in a 5-2 win against KAS Eupen in league play. His most recent appearance was in the 1-1 draw with KV Mechelen in league play on March 4, 2022.
Since Belgium, Durkin returned to D.C. United as a full-time starter, tallying 66 appearances with four goals and six assists across all competitions. Over the last two seasons, he led the team with 463 duels and 42 interceptions.
For country, Durkin has played at multiple levels of the United States Youth National team level, spanning from the Under-15 through the Under-23 teams. He has compiled 61 caps for the youth national team and recorded five goals.
