Columbus Crew SC News Release
COLUMBUS - Columbus Crew is set to host Liga MX side Cruz Azul for the 2021 Campeones Cup match at Lower.com Field one week from today on Wednesday, September 29 [8:00 p.m. ET / ESPN2, Univision and TUDN]. Campeones Cup is the annual matchup between the reigning MLS and Liga MX champions, with this year's match being the third edition of the contest as both sides battle for the Campeones Cup trophy.
The midweek contest marks an exciting evening downtown around the Arena District and Astor Park with the Crew's neighbors the Columbus Blue Jackets and Columbus Clippers also hosting games that evening. As such, all fans planning to attend the Campeones Cup match are encouraged to arrive early and can guarantee parking spots by pre-purchasing parking passes via arenadistrictparking.com. Additional matchday parking now includes the new Kilbourne Garage at Neil & I-670. Supporters planning on parking at the Front Street and Chestnut Garages and marching to the match are advised that they can arrive faster by taking the South 3rd Street Exit off I-670. Tickets for the title match on September 29 are available at the following link: https://bit.ly/3iBpovw.
The Crew qualified for the 2021 Campeones Cup by virtue of winning the 2020 MLS Cup, defeating Seattle Sounders FC 3-0 (December 12) - the largest margin of victory in MLS Cup history. The September 29 contest marks the Club's first appearance in Campeones Cup. Should the Black & Gold win against Cruz Azul, they would win their first-ever international trophy. Representing LIGA MX, Deportivo Cruz Azul earned a spot in the Campeones Cup after defeating Club Leon and winning its third Campeon de Campeones match - the contest between the winners of LIGA MX's Apertura and Clausura regular seasons, in which Cruz Azul had won the 2021 Clausura title.
