One big inning was the undoing for Pawtucket starter and loser Kris Johnson on Sunday evening in Ohio. The lefthander allowed 4 runs in the fifth and the PawSox dropped a 5-4 decision to the first place Clippers. Johnson (4-9) worked 4 plus innings, allowing 5 runs on 8 hits. He walked two and struck out one. Including the completion of a suspended game on Friday, the PawSox have already lost 4 games here since Friday. Pawtucket has dropped 12 of its last 16 on the road, falling to a season low 14 games under .500 at 44-58.
Daniel Nava had 2 hits and 2 RBI for the PawSox. Mark Wagner had 2 hits and Aaron Bates contributed a pair of runs batted in. One night after going 4-4, rehabber Mike Lowell (hip) went 0-5. Pawtucket thtreatened in the ninth, leaving the bases loaded. Jordan Brown cleared the bases for Columbus with a three run double in the fifth.
The series concludes on Monday night at 7:05 p.m. Mark Holliman (0-1, 3.00) faces Justin Germano (2-2, 3.02).
