Durham, N.C. - The Syracuse Chiefs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, fell 5-0 to the Durham Bulls on Sunday night. The Bulls have taken three straight against Syracuse to start the series and the Chiefs have now lost five games in a row for the first time this season.

Syracuse (54-48) starter Erik Arnesen allowed a home run to the second batter he faced. Elliot Johnson hit a solo homer to right to give the Bulls a 1-0 advantage after the first. In the third, it would be the top of the lineup striking again.

Durham (61-40) rightfielder Desmond Jennings used an RBI triple to score Omar Luna in the third to push the Bulls lead to 2-0. Elliot Johnson would add another run on a sacrifice fly to right and Syracuse trailed 3-0 after three innings.

The Bulls were held without a run again until the eighth inning when Victor Garate came on to pitch and walked two of the first three batters he faced. The fourth was Dioner Navarro who hit a two-run double and made it 5-0 in favor of the home team.

Ron Villone came on to pitch after Garate retired Angel Chavez. Villone walked J.J. Furmaniak which put runners on first and second. After that at bat, the skied opened in Durham and began a 39-minute rain delay with two outs in the bottom of the eighth.

The game would eventually be called and was made final with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning.

On Monday the Chiefs will conclude their road trip with a game against the Bulls. Righty Jason Jones (1-5, 6.21) is scheduled to start for the Chiefs against righthander Virgil Vasquez (4-1, 4.95) for the Bulls. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
