July 25, 2010 - International League (IL1)
Gwinnett Stripers News Release
The Louisville Bats downed the Gwinnett Braves 8-3 on Sunday afternoon at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, GA. The Bats and their home runs were the downfall of Gwinnett for the second game in the series, as starter Todd Redmond yielded 2 HR for the third straight game. The G-Braves (46-56) fell to 15 games behind International League South leaders Durham in last place. Louisville (53-50) pulled 9.5 games behind IL West leaders Columbus in second place (at press time).
It Was Over When: The ball kept jumping out of the park for the G-Braves opponents. Redmond gave up a two-run home run in the 2nd inning and another in the 6th, while RHP Craig Kimbrel yielded another two-run bomb in relief.
Braves Beat:
On the Mound: RHP Redmond (8-10) went 6.0 IP and allowed 5 R/ER on 6 hits - including those 2 HRs. Redmond has now given up 19 homers on the season, second-most in the IL. He also struck out 9 batters.
At the plate: Gwinnett could only muster 4 hits in the game, with three resulting in RBI. First baseman Freddie Freeman hit a homer (13) in the 6th inning in a 1-for-4 day, while catcher J.C. Boscan had an RBI single in the 2nd inning (finished 1-for-3). Clint Sammons hit a pinch hit home run (3) in the 7th inning.
The opposition:
On the Mound: Louisville RHP Micah Owings went 3.0 IP, allowing 1 R/ER while walking 3 and adding 1 strikeout. Enerio Del Rosario (2-3) went 2.0 scoreless innings of relief to earn the win. Newly signed RHP Jason Isringhausen, a former Major League closer with the St. Louis Cardinals (among other teams), went 1.0 IP in relief, allowed the homer to Freeman and struck out 1 batter.
At the plate: Both right fielder Danny Dorn and third baseman Juan Francisco went 2-for-5 with two-run home runs. Catcher (and former Atlanta Brave) Corky Miller finished 2-for-3 with another two-run HR.
On Deck: Gwinnett continues their season long 12-day, 12-game homestand tomorrow night, trying to avoid a sweep at the hands of Louisville in the final game of the four game series at 7:05 p.m. The G-Braves will send RHP Brandon Beachy (No Record) to the bump for the first start as a G-Brave and at the Triple-A level. He'll go against LHP Ben Jukich (3-4, 4.01 ERA) for the Bats. The game will be broadcast on the radio at WDUN-550 AM and on TV on CSS.
