San Angelo Colts News Release

SAN ANGELO, Texas - The San Angelo Colts announced today a series of roster moves that features familiar faces both leaving and returning to San Angelo. The Colts have placed pitcher-coach Ryan Mulle on the inactive list with an injured arm, and have released infielder Jason Crosland, outfielder Craig Richardson, and infielder John Beal, who was on the inactive list.

Added to the roster are outfielder Jason Landreth, catcher Chris Mongiardo, right-handed pitcher Matt Greanead, and infielder Robert Mendoza, who was placed on the inactive list effective immediately.

Mulle is 3-2 with a 5.45 ERA in 18 games, including one spot start, in his third season with the Colts. After posting eight scoreless outings in his first 12 relief appearances, the righty has given up at least one run in five of his last six outings, although he has picked up wins in his last two pitching appearances, not allowing an earned run in 3.1 innings.

Crosland leaves San Angelo with 44 home runs in two-and-a-half seasons with the Colts, making him the all-time leader in the United League. He was hitting .228 with six dingers and 20 RBIs in 37 games this season. The popular Rupert, Idaho native suffered from a slow start to the season, partially due to a quadriceps injury that forced him to miss action in late May and early June.

The lefty-hitting outfielder Richardson was signed by the Colts after attending their open tryout in May. He was added to the roster last week, making his professional debut against Laredo on July 10. In four starts, he was 1-for-14 (.071), with three walks and three runs scored.

Beal split time with Charley Belew at shortstop the first few weeks of the year, but was placed on the inactive list on June 8. On the season, he is hitting .200, with no home runs and seven RBIs in 16 games played.

Landreth, a 32-year-old from Sacramento, California, last played professional baseball with San Angelo in 2003, when he hit .277 with a homer and 14 RBIs in 21 games. He started his pro career in 1999 with Williamsport, the short-season single-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. After hitting .314 in '99, he was advanced to the South Atlantic League in 2000, and he hit .304 in 72 games before being promoted to High-A in the Carolina League with Lynchburg. He hit .193 in 22 games there the rest of the season.

Mongiardo is another former Colt, who joined San Angelo late in the season last year. The native Ohioan only got into one game, when he went 0-for-5 with an RBI in Alexandria. The 33-year-old catcher has extensive coaching experience, having managed the Richmond Roosters of the Frontier League from 2003-05 along with several seasons as a pitching coach with Gary (Northern League) and Rockford, also in the Frontier League. He hit .302 in 77 games in his first full pro year, with Canton of the Frontier Leauge in 1999.

Mendoza is now in his second stint with the Colts this season. The Amarillo, Texas native hit .269 with one RBI in nine games with San Angelo in June. Like Mendoza, Greanead is a returning Colt, having both been released on July 1. In eight appearances this year with San Angelo, Greanead has no record, with a 3.95 ERA, allowing 13 hits in 13.2 innings. He has also struck out 12, nearly one per inning, but has allowed 12 walks as well.

The Colts embark today on a seven-game road trip to Amarillo and Laredo before returning home to start a 10-game homestand on Thursday, July 24 against the Harlingen WhiteWings. Advertising, ticket, and group information are available by calling the box office at (325) 942-6587. All Colts games are broadcast live on "Cool 100" - KCLL 100.1 FM and online at the Colts' official website, www.sanangelocolts.com, which is updated daily with the latest team news.
