Broncos Drop 1st Game After All Star Break

Laredo, TX-The Laredo Broncos had the tying run 90 ft away, but could not get him in as they fell to the Alexandria Aces by a score of 6-5 at Veterans Field on Thursday night. The Broncos continue their 7 game home stand with the 2nd game of a 4 game series against the Aces. For more information you can call (956)-723-BASE (2273).

The Broncos would get on the scoreboard first in the 2nd inning. Edgard Clemente led off the inning with a walk. Dwayne White then hit a double into the right center field gap, which scored Clemente from 1st and gave Laredo the early lead 1-0.

The Aces would tie the game up in the 4th inning when with 1 out, Palmer Karr Jr. hit a solo home, which was his 14th of the season. That would make the score 1-1.

Alexandria would get to Broncos starter Gregorio Martinez in the 5th. Albert Gonzalez led off with a single and went to 2nd on a walk to Eddie Fitzpatrick. After a Bryan Sabatella fly out move Gonzalez to 3rd, Luis Guance doubled him in and moved Fitzpatrick to 3rd. Selwyn Langaigne would then hit a single scoring Fitzpatrick and advancing Guance to 3rd. Palmer Karr Jr. then hit a rbi single which scored Guance. Rafael Ozuna would then single to load the bases. Andre Marshall would then hit a 2 run single scoring both Langaigne and Karr Jr. Madison Edwards would end the inning with a double play. The Aces would score 5 total runs in the inning and lead 6-1.

The Broncos would get a run in the 6th inning when Arnoldo Ponce led off with a solo home run, his 4th of the season. That made the score 6-2.

Gregorio Martinez would be done after 6 innings of work. He gave up 6 runs, on 10 hits, walked 1 and struck out 4. Dan Sausville would come into the game for Martinez.

The Broncos would get closer in the 7th inning against reliever Ronald Ramirez. Ben Tinius led off with a single and scored on a home run by Ivan Reyes, his 8th of the season. That would make the score 6-4 heading into the 8th.

Dan Sausville would shut down the Aces thru 8 and David Watkins struck out the side in the 9th inning, as the Broncos headed into the bottom half of the inning trailing by 2. They would need to comeback against Aces closer Wayne Hedden.

Ben Tinius led off the inning with a single and went to 2nd on a walk to Ivan Reyes. Matt Lawman would then come in to pinch run for Tinius. Eric Padilla hit a sacrifice bunt, moving the runners to 2nd and 3rd. Anthony Bennett would hit a ground out which scored Lawman from 3rd and advanced Reyes to 2nd. Steven Wright would end the game as he struck out looking and the Aces held on for the 6-5 victory.

The Broncos scored 5 runs on 8 hits and committed 0 errors, while the Aces scored 6 runs on 10 hits and committed 0 errors.

The Broncos now fall to 29-31 on the season. The Broncos will be back in action on Friday when they play game 2 of a 4 game series against the Aces at 7:35 at Veterans Field.
