San Angelo Colts News Release
SAN ANGELO, Texas - For the second straight night against the Alexandria Aces, the San Angelo Colts overcame a six-run deficit. After losing on Friday, they were able to pull out the victory on Saturday night though, winning 14-13 in 10 innings to even the series at one game apiece. The teams again played a game that lasted over four hours (4:22), and combined for 37 hits.
After the Aces (5-6) took a 13-12 lead in the top of the 10th by scoring an unearned run against Taylor Fleming (2-0), who wound up picking up the win, the Colts scored twice in the bottom half against Juan Ovalles (0-2) to win it. With two out and John Anderson at second base, Jason Crosland-who committed three errors that led to two unearned runs-redeemed himself with an RBI single to center to tie the game at 13. After Adam Miller walked to put Crosland in scoring position, Andres Rodriguez then hit a pop-up to shallow center field. Blake Butler kept on charging in but committed the first error of the night for Alexandria as the ball nipped off his glove and fell to the ground, allowing Crosland to score the winning run.
The Colts trailed by scores of 6-0 (1st inning) and 12-6 (4th inning) but again managed to battle back. Alexandria exploded to a 6-0 lead in the first inning off Colts starter Luke Massetti, who lasted four innings, allowing 12 runs, 11 earned, on 13 hits with five strikeouts and two walks. The first run of the game scored on an error by Crosland, as the Colts committed five errors on the night. Patrick O'Sullivan, who was 3-for-4 with three RBIs, then doubled in two runs and former Colt Madison Edwards drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Later in the frame, Homy Ovalles hit a two-run double to make it 6-0.
San Angelo bounced back with a five-run first off Aces starter Ryan Harris, who left the game in the bottom of the fifth after Bryan Frichter hit a hard groundball that struck his right ankle, forcing him to leave the game. The Colts began their scoring in the first when Frichter doubled home Anderson, who walked with one out. Frichter then scored on an RBI double by Crosland, who later came home on a wild pitch. Torres, the seventh batter of the inning, brought home two more runs with a single to center, making it a one-run game at the time.
The teams then traded solo home runs as O'Sullivan blasted his league-leading eighth of the year in the second, and Torres hit his second homer in two nights in the third to make it 7-6.
The Aces regained a six-run lead in the fourth as they batted around for the second time in the contest and plated five runs. O'Sullivan drove in a run with another double and Palmer Karr then blasted a three-run shot, his first of the year. Jose Umbria later scored on a wild pitch by Massetti to give the Aces a 12-6 advantage.
The Colts again fought back, scoring two in the sixth on a solo homer by Benny Craig and an RBI double by Wyn Diggs. San Angelo plated four more in the eighth to tie the score at 12, as Pendergrass started the rally with an RBI single. Anderson, who had three hits, followed with a two-run double, then stole third, and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Frichter to tie the game.
