Niagara IceDogs News Release
Barrie, Ont. (Thursday, March 15) - The Mississauga IceDogs went looking for their third straight victory in Barrie this evening. They appeared to be on the right track, before giving up a late goal and eventually falling 4-3 by way of a shootout. As a result, the IceDogs record shifts to 41-21-0-4 on the year.
Both squads were missing key weapons this evening as defencemen Matt Corrente and Alex Pietrangelo and forward Travis Fuller were out for the IceDogs while forwards Bryan Little and Hunter Tremblay were on the sidelines for Barrie. However, that didn't prevent an entertaining game from taking place.
The Colts jumped ahead 1-0 only 1:18 into the affair when Richard Clune scored off of Matthew Bragg and Cory McGillis feeds. Kyle Lamb's power-play marker at 7:58 of the 2nd period, with support from Drew Schiestel and Stefan Legein, tied up the affair.
The Colts went back ahead with a man-advantage goal of their own at 15:36, this time Bragg was the marksman and Clune and Brian Lashoff distributed the puck to him. However, the IceDogs bounced back again, with a Luca Caputi tally just over two minutes later and an Oskar Osala goal at 9:41 of the final frame. The assists were credited to Legein, Jordan Owens, Jean-Michel Rizk and Andrew Merrett.
Unfortunately, with 1:32 to play, Kris Sparre tied up the affair after receiving Mike Weber and Tomas Marcinko passes. Then, despite the fact that Legein and Jadran Beljo both found the back of the net in the shootout, Lashoff, Clune and Vladimir Nikiforov scored for Barrie to give them the win.
Andrew Loverock finished the night with 37 saves for the IceDogs while Michael Hutchinson recorded 34 for the Colts. The two teams combined to go 2 for 7 on the power-play.
The game's three stars were Clune (1st), Osala (2nd) and McGillis (3rd).
The IceDogs finish the regular season with a pair of home games. They host the Peterborough Petes tomorrow evening at 7:30 p.m. and the Kingston Frontenacs on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.
IceDogs tickets can be purchased by calling the team at 905-502-7788, by contacting Ticketmaster at 416-872-5000 or www.ticketmaster.ca, and by visiting the Hershey Centre box office during regular business hours or prior to the puck drop.
