SARNIA, Ont. - Steve Stamkos' 40th goal of the season delivered with less than seven minutes remaining in regulation was the difference as the Sarnia Sting beat the Erie Otters 5-3 in an Ontario Hockey League game played tonight in front of 3,566 at the Sarnia Sports and Entertainment Centre.

Mark Katic, Craig Voakes, Harrison Reed and Mike Roelofsen had the other Sarnia goals.

The Sting ended a three-game winless streak with the win to improve to 33-24-4-5.

Josh Vatri, Jordan Skellett and Nick Palmieri scored for the Otters, who dropped their third straight. Erie is now 15-48-1-2.

The Otters led 2-1 after one. The two teams were tied at three heading into the third.

The Sting out shot the Otters 36-27 in the game as Justin Garay took the loss.

The three stars of the game were 1. Stamkos; 2. Katic and 3. Vatri.

The Otters return to action tomorrow (Friday) night when they travel to London to face off against the Knights in a 7:30 p.m. start from the John Labatt Centre. The game can be heard live on True Oldies 1330 and on-line at www.ottershockey.com (presented by the James H. Cross Company) beginning with the pre-game show at 7:15 p.m.

The Otters close out the 2006-2007 Season at the Tullio Arena Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. when the Knights visit to complete the back half of the home-and-home series. Cold Stone Creamery, WSEE and Mercyhurst College present Fan Appreciation Night with more than $20,000 in cash and prizes available to be won. The first 3,000 fans into the game will receive a coupon for a free ice cream cone courtesy of Cold Stone Creamery and one fan will have the chance to win an ice cream cake a month for a year in the Cold Stone Creamery Ice Cream Eating Contest. In addition, fans are encouraged to purchase a ticket for the Auer Framing Gallery Jersey Raffle for their chance to win the jersey right of the back of a member of the Otters at the end of the game; all fans in attendance will receive free popcorn courtesy of Center Plate and the Erie County Convention Center Authority and more than 100 t-shirts will be blasted and slung into the crowd throughout the game. Tickets for the game are available at all Erie-area TicketMaster locations as well as the Erie Civic Center Box Office.
