San Angelo Colts News Release

San Angelo, TX---Needing just 1,053 fans through the gate, the Colts drew a crowd of 2,502 at last night's doubleheader against the Coastal Bend Thunder, drawing over 100,000 fans for a club record fourth consecutive season. The club's attendance now sits at 101,449 for the 2010 season

The Colts, however, are also approaching another major attendance milestone. If the team draws 4,963 fans over the remaining four games, which is just an average of 1,241, (about half of the attendance of the average crowd of 2,305) the Colts will pass the third-highest attendance mark in club history of 106,411, which was set in 2001, the second year of the franchise. It would also be the largest total in Colts General Manager Mike Babcock tenure.

The Colts have gone over the magic number of 100,000 fans in each of the four full seasons Babcock has been at the helm. "This is a testimony to what a great sports town San Angelo is, and hats off to the fans for being such loyal supporters of our hometown team." Babcock said.

The main reason for the attendance surge is the creativity, marketing, promotions, sponsorships, community outreach programs, large charitable donations and additions to the ballpark the Colts have made. The biggest attraction this season was the brand new state-of-the-art video scoreboard at Foster Field, the largest in West Texas. It has been a tremendous addition that the fans, sponsors, and team have used to bring baseball in San Angelo to a new level.

The third highest attendance in team history should be a very achievable mark with a playoff race, two giveaway nights (Youth Gloves and Thundersticks), a post-game concert (National recording artist, The Maurice Davis Band), Fan Appreciation Night and a fireworks night still remaining over the final homestand of the regular season. The Colts will finish the home-stand with the final game of a four-game series against the Coastal Bend Thunder on Friday, followed by the final series of the regular season against the first-place and close rival Amarillo Dillas Saturday through Monday.
