San Angelo Colts News Release

San Angelo, Texas --- The Colts scored early and often, and cruised to a 12-2 win over the Edinburg Roadrunners in their series finale Friday night at Foster Field.

San Angelo hit three home runs and scored in each of the first five innings. In the first, right fielder Mike Mobbs and left fielder Braden Embry both hit two-run homers, giving the Colts an early 4-0 lead. It was the first home run for both players this season.

Roadrunners' starter Frank DeJiulio (0-1) did not get out of the second inning. After allowing a fifth run, he was removed from the game. DeJiulio gave up five runs on as many hits in just 1 1/3 innings for the loss.

With the Colts already ahead 5-0, third baseman Steve Rinaudo hit a solo homer in the third. It was Rinaudo's second home run in as many games.

Edinburg cut its deficit to 6-2 in the fourth inning when right fielder Carlton Salters smacked a two-run homer into left field. It was his second home run of the year, and it scored third baseman Bunyu Maeda.

Those were the only two runs Colts' starter Alex Bates surrendered. Bates (1-0) struck out a game-high eight batters in as many innings of work for his first career win.

The Colts piled on four more runs from the fifth through the seventh innings. Reliever Cephas Howard pitched a scoreless ninth to end the game.

The win improves the Colts to 5-3, while the loss drops Edinburg to 2-6. San Angelo begins an eight-game road trip Saturday with game one of a four-game series against the Alexandria Aces. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m., and the game can be heard live beginning at 6:50 p.m. on 1260 KKSA.
