Cats Rebound to Split Doubleheader

Fort Worth Cats News Release

After losing their first game of the season in game one, the Fort Worth Cats rebounded to split Thursday night's doubleheader with the McAllen Thunder.

Game One

Cats starting pitcher James Guilietti walked a tight rope through the early portion of the game. The Thunder (4-3) loaded the bases with no outs in the first and third innings, but Guilietti allowed only three runs to score in those innings. He settled down and kept the Cats in the game. The Cats (6-1) rallied to tie the game in the fourth via first baseman David Bergin's two-run home run, but on the first pitch in the top of the fifth Thunder shortstop Andy White homered off Guilietti to put his team ahead for good. Fort Worth attempted a second rally in the ninth, but it fell short as catcher Shelby Ford flew out just a few feet short of the right field fence to end the game, and the Thunder won 4-3.

Game Two

Cats starting pitching got back to its winning ways in game two, as Eric Sheridan struck out nine Thunder batters over six innings of work. Fort Worth scored one run in each of their final three at-bats to keep the Thunder at bay, and reliever Boomer Potts shut it down in the seventh inning, striking out two of his three batters faced to save the 3-0 game. Game two was the third shut out for the Cats this season. The Cats finish off their homestand against the Thunder on Friday at 7:05 p.m. at historic LaGrave Field. Tickets can be purchased online at FWCats.com or by calling the ticket office at (817) 332-CATS.
