Alexandria Aces News Release

The Alexandria Aces have signed righthanded reliever Brandon Creath.

Creath, 24, was the St. Louis Cardinals' 44th round selection in the 2011 June Amateur Draft out of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida.

He played three seasons in the Cardinals' chain, advancing to the Palm Beach Cardinals of the Florida State League (A) this season. At Palm Beach Creath appeared in 12 games and pitched in 19 innings, allowing 19 hits, striking out 19 batters and walking 12. He had an 0-2 record and a 4.26 ERA.

Last season with the Bativia MuckDogs of the New York-Penn League (Short-season A), Creath had a 2-2 record with a 2.76 ERA and six saves. The San Luis Obispo, California native struck out 47 batters in 32 2/3 innings and allowed only 27 hits and 14 walks before being promoted to Quad Cities of the Midwest League (A).

In 2011 with the Gulf Coast League Cardinals Creath was 3-2 with a 2.22 ERA, fanning 32 batters in 24 1/3 innings while walking 11 and giving up 27 hits.

Prior to Palm Beach, Creath had allowed only one home run in his professional career.

His career minor league record is 8-9 with a 3.19 ERA in 71 games. In 96 innings he has struck out 118 hitters, walking 45 and giving up 86 hits while allowing four home runs.

To make room for Creath the Aces released righthanded relief pitcher Andrew Loynaz. Loynaz could not duplicate the success he had at the University of South Florida when he held hitters to a .207 batting average and was touched for four hits in 2 1/3 innings while walking seven and striking out four in three appearances for Alexandria.
