Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC Historic Signing of Academy Player Marco Rios

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC announced today that the team has signed Marco Rios, making him the first USL Academy player to earn a professional contract with Switchbacks FC. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

"I'm very excited to officially join the Switchbacks for the 2024 season. This is truly a dream come true! This is a huge milestone in my career," said Rios. "What a great family of guys to be around and can't wait to represent [the city]. It's been a journey to get here but this is only the beginning of a great story."

This Pueblo native made a total of five appearances for the (USL Championship's Switchbacks FC), recording two goals, and holding an 85.7% passing accuracy. Rios (17), was also in the starting eleven for the second round of the 2023 US Open Cup, earning one assist.

"Marco has worked hard to develop his game over the last number of seasons. He has added valuable goal contributions in the minutes he has gotten this year," said coach James Chambers. "This contract is a reward for his hard work and commitment to growing as a person and a professional. We are delighted to have him join the organization."

Rios will be the first player to jump from a USL Academy contract to a professional contract for Switchbacks FC, and the organization is excited for this milestone. The franchise is hopeful that this is only the beginning of a prosperous relationship with USL Academy signees and their development programs.
