Hurst So Good: Greg Hurst Returns to 2024 United Roster
November 10, 2023 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
New Mexico United News Release
New Mexico United is thrilled to announce that forward Greg Hurst has signed a new deal with the club, bringing him back to the Black & Yellow for the 2024 season. Hurst joined United ahead of 2023 in a deal from Phoenix Rising FC, and was an incredibly important piece for the club throughout the 2023 season.
"Greg has been a terrific member of our team - not just in his goal-scoring, but also in his on-field effort and tenacity, as well as his terrific work in the community," said United Sporting Director Itamar Keinan. "The final month and a half of the season were a terrific indication of the incredible talent Greg possesses, and we're excited to see what he will accomplish in 2024."
Hurst's fight and drive were no more apparent than in the United's final stretch of the 2023 Regular Season - a time when the Black & Yellow went on an extraordinary run of defeating three straight playoff teams to clinch a playoff spot. In the club's second-to-last match of the season, Hurst broke free along the left side of the pitch, making a gut-busting run past defenders after having played 83 minutes and earning the penalty that won the match.
One week later, Hurst scored twice against Memphis 901 FC in United's final match of the Regular Season to beat one of the Eastern Conference's top teams by a 4-1 score and clinch a playoff spot. Hurst scored five times in all competitions last season; assisting another two goals and making a team-best 34 league appearances.
