Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

Two costly errors by the Colorado Springs Sky Sox infield led to a seven-run fifth inning, as the Sky Sox dropped the first of a four-game set to the Portland Beavers, 13-3 Tuesday evening at Security Service Field.

Starting pitcher Victor Zambrano (0-2) took the loss after allowing 10 runs in just 4 2/3 innings, but his numbers were deceiving as just three of the runs were earned. Zambrano retired the first batter of the fifth inning before the wheels came off. He allowed the next three batters to reach base safely before Christian Colonel's throwing error at the plate allowed the first run of the inning to score. Moments later, Luis Rodriguez would be just as lucky as Joe Koshanky's throw to shortstop Jon Herrera was bobbled for a second Sky Sox error.

Try as they might, the Sky Sox were unable to match the Beavers at the plate. Shawn Estes pitched 5 2/3 innings of two-run baseball for Portland. The team finally got on the board in the sixth inning after Joe Koshansky's single plated Seth Smith. Edwin Bellorin's single on the next at-bat would improve his hitting streak to eight games and plate Koshansky. The small rally would not be enough for the Sky Sox.

The teams resume its series Wednesday with game two at Security Service Field. Valerio De Los Santos makes his first start of the season for the Sky Sox while Cesar Ramos will take the mound for the Beavers. First pitch is set for 10:35.
